  • Spirit today announced nonstop service from its hub in Ft. Lauderdale to Guatemala City, Guatemala once daily effective May 10th.
  • Commercial passenger service will be terminating in Lake Havasu City, Arizona effective May 6th. Mesa Airlines, which provides service from the airport to Phoenix and Las Vegas. A Mesa analysis on the Havasu airport showed that revenues weren’t even supporting direct costs, which include all the supplies and labor needed to get the planes off the ground, minus capital costs and overhead.
  • Sun Country Airlines, based out of Minneapolis/St. Paul, has completed negotiations for the delivery of two new Boeing 737.800 next generation aircraft to be delivered in July and August of this year.
  • Boeing announced the 500th order for a 787 Dreamliner yesterday with a follow-on order from Japan Airlines.
  • American Airlines has applied to fly daily nonstop service from Chicago to Buenos Aires beginning October 28th. American plans to fly the route with 219-seat Boeing 767-300 aircraft, with 30 Business Class seats and 189 Coach seats. It will be American’s 22nd nonstop destination from O’Hare.
