Grab Bag: Service to Sunshine and the Snowy North

  • Alaska Airlines opened a new reservations call center in Phoenix, replacing a facility in Tempe operated since 1989. It specializes in serving elite frequent fliers and Spanish-speaking customers. We are currently unaware where the facility for most customers is located.
  • American Airlines will offer new service to Buenos Aires, Argentina from Chicago-O’Hare effective December 13th.
  • Jetblue is adding service using its Embraer 190 aircraft out of Ft. Lauderdale. It will kick off once daily seasonal winter service to Richmond, VA on November 1st, and on January 10th it will add daily seasonal service to Charlotte and Raleigh-Durham. Service on all routes will run through April 30th. Jetblue is continuing its plan this year of focusing on connecting the dots between existing cities. We are happy they will be basing some of their Embraers in their South Florida focus city.
  • Air Canada is increasing service out of Ottawa: Effective October 28th, they are adding year-round turboprop service to Fredericton once daily, every business day; adding daily nonstop regional jet service to Moncton; and E190 regional jet service to St. John’s. Saturday E190 regional service will be added to Cancun and Montego Bay effective December 22nd. Twice weekly Las Vegas service will be continued through the winter, and frequencies added to Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, London Ontario, and Boston for the winter.
  • Air Canada is adding Thursday nonstop service to the Turks and Caicos out of Montreal starting December 20th, and Sunday service to Santa Clara, Cuba on December 23rd. Montreal will also see increased frequencies to Montego Bay, Orlando, and Quebec City.
  • With more Air Canada news, they are increasing service to Vancouver. On December 1st, Air Canada Jazz will launch seasonal service to Yellowknife with 50-seat aircraft, adding to service to the airport from Edmonton and Calgary. On December 14th, they will launch service to Sydney, Australia.
  • From Edmonton, Air Canada is increasing service to London Heathrow from three times weekly to daily.
  • Continental is pulling its name off the Meadowlands Arena in New Jersey.
  • Utah has approved $250,000 to aid flights from Salt Lake City to Paris. Delta has promised an international flight from the city in 2008. As previously reported, Paris…hub of Skyteam partner Air France, is a likely candidate.
  • Allegiant is launching more service to their new gateways:
    • Effective October 26th, they will add service from Missoula, Montana to Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport on Mondays and Fridays.
    • Knoxville, TN will get service to Ft. Lauderdale on Tuesday, Thursday, and Sundays beginning November 15th.
    • Cedar Rapids, IA will get service to Phoenix-Mesa beginning October 25th. Service will be on Thursday and Sunday.
    • Stockton, CA will get nonstop service to Phoenix-Mesa beginning October 26th on Mondays and Fridays.
