Roundup – Woo-Hoo Jetblue, New Service, and Pay with Paypal

  • As we mentioned in previous posts, and now available in a press release from Jetblue…JetBlue, in Partnership With Twentieth Century Fox, was named ‘The Official Airline of Springfield’ in Celebration of The Simpsons Movie. In addition to Mr. Burn’s wresting control of Neeleman’s blog, the airline will unveil its first-ever specialty aircraft, christened “Woo-Hoo, JetBlue!” and featuring an image of Homer along with a permanent logo of the airline’s new Springfield status. During the month of July, JetBlue customers will also enjoy a continuous offering of Simpson’s episodes on FOX Channel 41 of its signature in-flight entertainment system.
  • Frontier Airlines has announced service to the three initial markets for its new fleet of 74-seat Q400 turboprops, operated by subsidiary Lynx Aviation. Service to Wichita Mid-Continent Airport (ICT), Wichita, Kansas: Service to begin on Oct. 1, 2007…Rapid City Regional Airport (RAP), Rapid City, South Dakota: Service to begin on Oct. 5, 2007….and Sioux Gateway Airport (SUX), Sioux City, Iowa: Service to begin on Oct. 5, 2007.
  • Delta reports beginning September 6th, they will add once daily service service from Boston to Louisville using a fifty-seater regional jet operated by Comair.
  • Airtran plans to extend its seasonal service to Portland, Maine. Service from Portland to Orlando will go from Saturday only to daily, and from seasonal to year-round. Service to Baltimore will continue until January 8th, instead of November 6th. Baltimore service will resume at an as-yet unannounced date.
  • Lufthansa announced yesterday that its all-business class service from Newark will now serve Frankfurt nonstop beginning October 28th. Current Business Jet flights between Newark and Munich will be replaced by three-class Airbus 330 aircraft to accommodate increased demand . The new service between Newark and Frankfurt will be operated with an all-business 737-700 with 44 lie-flat seats.
  • Delta announced last week it would serve Curacao, in the Netherland Antilles off the coast of Venezuel with seasonal service from Atlanta. The flights will operate Saturdays only, effective December 22nd through April 26th.
  • An irate passenger prompted the diversion of a Jetblue flight from Houston to New York flight to Buffalo when the flight attendants refused to serve him alcohol. The passenger, 26 year old Jose Roman, threatened to shoot and kill the flight crew. He’s been charged with assaulting and intimidating flight crew members and interfering with the ability of flight crew members.
  • Northwest Airlines is now offering Paypal as a way to pay for tickets through its website. Northwest will be the first airline to accept the popular service.
