More News from the Coalition and Shipping Ahead

By | April 5, 2007

The Coalition for Luggage Security once again sounded its trumpet call to require travellers to voluntarily ship their luggage from domestic air travel prior to departure.

To be fair, we had a look at Universal Express’s Luggage Express pitch. They plan to charge $70 per piece of dropped off luggage of $85 per pick-up. In regards to a couple travelling with an average of three suitcases, they comment…

The addition of $210 is minimal for the added convenience of not having to stand in line for 2 hours prior to departure and no movement of luggage issues until it arrives at their final destination.

We’re not so sure. Perhaps internationally that is minimal, but domestically, as they are proposing…that can be as much as some fares. So in the end…we think everyone should attempt to pack smarter…carry less…and consider alternatives. Perhaps, if you are trying to save a bit of money on a trip, consider Minimuz.biz. We thought of using them on a recent trip in which we stayed in a suite style hotel with a small kitchenette. If travel to you doesn’t necessarilly mean eating out the whole time, you can ship ahead a care package of condiments, travel snacks, etc…to your hotel.
