In a press release today, the employees of US Airways provided their tips for Thanksgiving holiday travel. We summarize them below with some of our elaborations.
- Do not bring your turkey or other dishes to the airport. You can make them there.
- Travel lightly…overhead space is limited.
- Do not wrap your gifts prior to travel as you will have to unwrap them for inspection. Mail them ahead if you can.
- When traveling with children, pack snacks and games to keep them entertained. The airport can be a fascinating distraction while waiting to travel.
- Dress comfortably. Wear shoes that can be removed easily to run through security. Dressing in easily removable layers is also a good move, as you can vary your wardrobe as conditions change. This helps a lot if you are going between different climates.
- Give extra time for check-in during the holiday season.
- Check-in online if possible. During peak periods, there can be a line for even using the self-service kiosk at the airport.
- Have your ID and boarding pass out when you get to the front of the security line.
- You can lock your bags, but please use a TSA approved lock.
- Carry all your important medications and documents on your person and do not be parted from them.
- Make sure that your bags contain your name and contact information on both the inside and the outside of the bag, and remove old destination tags before checking in.
