Yesterday, feeling a bit whimsical, our editor wrote a somewhat silly poem based on the balloon boy saga. Pushed by our roving correspondent, Dr. Lane(now on Twitter at @infrequentflier), we have posted the complete poem, which we categorize as influenced by Longfellow, Chaucer, and Dr. Seuss.

And thus we announce the Balloon Boy Ballad Ballot. Submit your Balloon Boy-themed Poems or Ballads(Musical Parodies Accepted) to us through the comments below by Thursday, October 22nd, 2009 at 11:59PM PST. Content must be family friendly. Steven Frischling, of the popular blog, Flying with Fish, as well as roving Flight Wisdom correspondent Dr. Lane, The Infrequent Flier will act as judges. The prize for winning is 500 points.

Below is our editor’s submission. Hoping for some stiff competition.

Our Balloon Boy Submission

Come listen, children, oh have you seen,
the mid-day flight of Falcon Heene.
On the fifteenth of October, in ought-nine,
Balloon Boy did vanish with hardly a sign.

All eyes stayed glued, to the television set,
Prayers tweeted from those he never had met.
The Balloon fell to Earth, but empty, you see,
Oh where, oh where, we asked, Falcon could be.

For families who think because they are kooks,
Make sure that your sons when confronted don't puke.
It was all a hoax and was bound to fail,
Here endeth balloon boy's tale.
