Turkish Jet Crashes in Amsterdam

By | February 25, 2009

A Boeing 737-800 crashed into a field on approach to Amsterdam today, killing at least nine people and injuring fifty. The plane did not catch fire, but broke into three pieces. Flight TK1951 left Istanbul 8:22AM Wednesday with 128 passengers and 7 crew onboard.

Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport was the focus of an air crash in 1992 when an El Al cargo plane hit a high-rise building in the Amsterdam suburb of Bijlmermeer.

Today in the Sky is monitoring the coverage as it develops. Like the Buffalo crash, we will reserve further mention in favor of other sources until the full details are known. Our sympathies go to the families of the victims and we hope that like any crash, the knowledge gained makes future flights safer.
