Amusing Stories: Mushroom Soup Diverts Plane

By | September 1, 2008

A Ryanair plane flying from Budapest to Dublin was forced to divert to Frankfurt Hahn Airport(nowhere near Frankfurt) when a “vegetable oil/mushroom soup type mixture” leaked from a jar in an overhead compartment onto a man. The man suffered an allergic reaction, his neck swelled up, and the plane was diverted.

It remains to be seen whether Ryanair will charge him for the unscheduled stop. The airline is known for its fee-based policy and unforgiving attitude.

Another Ryanair plane on Monday depressurized on its way from Bristol to Barcelona Girona Airport(nowhere near Barcelona), forcing the deployment of oxygen masks. The plane was diverted to Limoges Airport in France, where 16 people were taken to the hospital suffering from ear pain. Ryanair’s press release can be found here.
