Blogging the Day Away

Happy Eighth Birthday to JetBlue Airways. Who would have thought they’d grow so fast so quickly? Remembering the good old days when we flew them between Rochester, NY and JFK…

  • Alaska Airlines and Horizon have announced they have selected Seattle-based Jones Soda Co as their new drink partner. The airlines will offer customers complimentary canned Jones Pure Cane Cola, Sugar-Free Cola, Lemon Lime and Sugar-Free Cream Soda beverages, with additional flavors periodically offered. Jones Soda products are the only nationally distributed sodas sweetened with pure cane sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup(we like that). We applaud Alaska and Horizon for going with a company from their hometown, rather than merely giving in to ‘Big Soda’.
  • Virgin America launched service yesterday from San Diego to San Francisco, with three daily flights. They will expand the service to 5 flights daily on March 9th.
  • Eos is expanding its service beyond London’s Stansted Airport, with new service from Stansted to Dubai UAE, starting on July 6th, as well as increasing service to New York by adding service to Newark Liberty on May 5th.
  • US Airways will add new flights to Austin and San Antonio from its Charlotte hub beginning May 4th. Service will be operated by Mesa Airlines, using CRJ900 regional jets.
  • US Airways will also add seasonal service from Philadelphia and Vancouver. The service, operated from June 3rd through September 2, will operate using 124-seat Airbus 319s. US Airways already serves Vancouver once daily from Las Vegas and twice from Phoenix. US Airways, with flights like this, is effectively eliminating great divide between America West and US Airways territory as it existed before the merger.
  • Delta Airlines has announced new service from Salt Lake City to Eureka, CA beginning June 5th. Service will be twice daily and operated using a CRJ200 50-seat regional jet.
  • Effective immediately, JetBlue will be extending seasonal service on the following routes to year round service:
    • Ft. Lauderdale to/from:
      • Charlotte
      • Raleigh/Durham
      • Richmond
    • Ft. Myers to/from:
      • White Plains
    • Orlando to/from:
      • Burlington
      • Portland, ME
  • United Airlines announced it would start flying to Quebec City and Kalispell(seasonally) from Chicago, as well as San Francisco to Victoria B.C., Denver to Helena, and Los Angeles to Tulsa OK.
  • AirTran will be discontinuing nonstop Las Vegas service for the summer for Bloomington, Ill; Moline/Quad Cities, Ill.; Dayton, Ohio; Akron-Canton, Ohio; and Rochester, N.Y.
  • Beginning May 2nd, Northwest will add flights between Indianopolis and Austin and San Antonio.
  • Effective in June, Burbank’s Bob Hope Airport will be Skybus’ only West Coast destination, having dropped its service to Bellingham WA, Oakland CA, and San Diego CA. Starting February 25th, Skybus will add a flight from Greensboro, its second focus city.
