  • ABX Air today announced that it agreed to buy a 767-223 aircraft formerly operated by American, which it will convert to freight operation. ABX has 35 767 aircraft in its fleet.
  • Reuters reported earlier this week that Boeing may increase production rates for the 787 to accomodate demand. The company expects to build 112 in its first two years of production.
  • The Star-Tribune reports that Northwest intends to shrink its mainline fleet, which includes planes seating 100 or more people from 375 last year to 337 by 2008, including the phase-out of one-third of its DC9s within two years. Northwest will increase regional flying by Mesaba and its other new subsidiary, Compass Air, using 76 seater aircraft. Northwest has not addressed the issue of what they will be replacing the DC9s with.
  • American began installing new personal video and audio entertainment devices in business class for its fleet of 767-300s on March 15th. This is the latest step in its 767-300 upgrade project, scheduled for completion by the end of the year.
