Kennedy Debacle Prompts Legislative Action

By | February 15, 2007

ABC News reports that Kate Hanni, one of the passengers of the American Airlines flight that was held in Austin in December for an excessive period and has been advocating a Passenger Bill of Rights will be in Washington next week to do just that.

Hanni will be pushing a bill that Representitive Mike Thompson(D-Ca) will introduce formally in the next few weeks. Anne Warden, a spokeswoman for Thompson, said that the congressman has already been approached by many House colleagues who said they would support a passenger bill of rights and Warden has said that Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., has said she’d sponsor a similar bill in the Senate.

FAA Administrator Marion Blakely has said she may introduce legislature of her own because of record flight delays(The ABC article incorrectly identifies her as male). But her legislation will be to improve the country’s air traffic control system…which will require Congressional finance approval. More on that here.
