Airlines Dropping Child Discounts

By | February 2, 2007

The Ledger reports that airlines are dropping discounts for children occupying a seat. Infants travelling on their parent’s lap are still eligible for discounts. American Airlines stopped offering them January 13th, citing lack of usage.  Delta dropped them December 26th. Continental, known for not dropping amenities other airlines have, still offers them in limited markets.

In the past, these children discounts brought in more revenue because parents would not pay the full price to give the infant a seat. But now that planes are travelling more full on average, that discounted seat given to an infant could be given to an adult(who will now have to sit next to a parent holding an infant).
