Boeing Exceeds Airbus in Orders for First Time in Five Years

By | January 17, 2007

Up until last year, Airbus had outsold Boeing in commercial airplanes for five straight years. However, in 2006, Airbus received 790 airplane orders, compared to Boeing’s 1044.

Airbus’s problems are blamed on the delays with the Airbus 380, which is two years behind schedule. The redesign of the A350, which failed to compete with Boeing’s 787, is also causing problems. The new A350XWB(Extra-Wide-Body), will not enter service until 2013, while the 787 will be out next year.

It will take Airbus several years before it is able to recover from the recent problems it has had. It will put Boeing at the top of the industry for that period.
