5-1-1

Mary Jo Manzanares of Fly Away Cafe posted a travel tip we weren’t aware of, and intend to use in the future.

5-1-1, America’s Traveler Information Telephone Number…In July of 2000, the FCC designated 511 as the single traffic telephone number to be made available across the country. While, multiple states have already implemented such systems, numerous others have received funding for implementing such systems. It is anticipated 54% of the population will have access to such a service this year.

The Federal government reserved this number because it is important for traffic information to be available with a single unified number in each municipality, and like 911, as well as governmental services and information accessible through 211 and 311, 511 can improve the travel experience by allowing an individual to be advised of travel conditions on the road, at the airport, and so on, wherever they go.
