Demand soars for older wide-body jets

By | December 6, 2006

Today in the Sky reports that the Boeing 767 might be hanging around for longer than expected. The jet was supposed to be obsolete. But now it and other widebody aircraft are in high-demand as there is increase demand and a shortage of such aircraft.

As Boeing considers shutting down 767 production, lease rates for the aircraft has more than doubled and there are no 767-300s available for rent anywhere in the world. The demand has spread to the 747 as well as the Airbus 330. For airlines who are focusing on long-haul routes, it is nearly impossible to get an aircraft to operate it.
